WOMENS EMPOWERMENT
Social development through empowerment of women was a vision of Fr. P. T. Geevarghese. We must remember that it was a time when education of women was not much accepted by the society. The women were under the slavery of tradition and blind believes. He got a firm inspiration that the welfare of a society depends on the physical, mental and educational standard of women. He wrote, “The prosperity of any community depends upon the characteristic culture of its women. The women flock of our country is at its lower ebb in the level of education. In order to raise them up from that level, there should be facilities for their education with a view to enhance their devotion to God and purity of life.”(Mountain Torch. page62). The first mission experience of the Syrian girls undergoing religious training was their educational activities in the school at Thirumoolapuram. They used to take classes in the school. After Re-union, the First School of the Bethany sisters was established at Nangiarkulangara. Later all our Provinces started establishing schools. All our institutions are meant for the empowerment of women and children. Our schools are functioning well. All our sisters serving in our schools and other institutions should instill in the women, children and the youth the importance of prayer life, truthfulness, responsibility, sense of values and generosity.
