SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES

As Jesus, who went about teaching, preaching the Good news of the Kingdom, and healing people with every kind of disease and sickness, we are to commit ourselves to work for the integral welfare of the people and to help them to work for a new society based on the Gospel values. His Grace Mar Ivanios was well interested in social welfare activities. It was by this reason that even in the beginning he started an orphanage under the management of Bethany. He had decided even when he was in Serampur to give a considerable importance to orphanage. We, the Bethany sisters are conducting many social service activities. Conducting orphanages, tailoring classes, crèche, clinics, private classes for the poor etc are some of them. Helping the poor by giving food and clothes is another charitable work. In some of our schools we admit poor students without taking any fee or take only concessional amount. All our institutions show much concern for the poor. Our Provinces and convents help poor people by helping for building their houses and according to their needs build and give them houses. “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me”….” Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least My brethren, you did it to Me”
